Battle of the Brains!

Congratulations To Mark Bytheway -
The New World Quizzing Champion!

World Quizzing Championships
31 Venues Around The World!

Our heartiest congratulations go to Mark Bytheway who is the new World Quizzing Champion for 2008. While we are still awaiting some finalised results from some countries we do know their best scores are not so high as to affect the outcome.

Mark, one of 65 quizzers who participated in the UK, triumphed over former winners Kevin Ashman and Pat Gibson and, along with a Belgian (Ronny Swiggers) and a Finn (Tero Kalliolevo) gave a very different look to the top 3 in the World this year. The result shows that the event has never been a foregone conclusion and continues to operate on a pretty-much level, and culturally neutral 'playing field'. Just 3 points separated the top three places (scores of 173, 172 and 170 from a aximum possible of 210) and eight nationalities were represented in the top 25 places, these being Australia, Belgium, Croatia, Finland, India, Norway, UK and USA.

Top 10 Places:
173 - Mark Bythway, UK
172 - Ronnie Swiggers, Belgium
170 - Tero Kalliolevo, Finland
167 - Kevin Ashman, UK (Champion 2004, 2005, 2006)
165 - Pat Gibson, UK (Champion 2007)
163 - Nico Pattyn, Belgium (reigning European Champion)
155 - Olav Bjortomt, UK (Champion 2003)
154 - Ian Bayley, UK
152 - Jesse Honey, UK
150 - Dorjana Sirola, Croatia (highest placed woman)
